Should my new puppy be checked for heartworms?

Is it important to have my new puppy checked for heartworms?

If your puppy is less than four months old, you don't need to have him checked at this time, but do start him immediately on a monthly preventative to keep him from getting heartworms at all.   We will supply you with the individual doses monthly for the size of your puppy as he grows, afterwards these preventatives come in a package of six at a time for the size of your adult dog.
